The chiropractor has various tools and is able to modulate the care to adapt it to the case of each patient according to his age and physical conditions. He is trained to recognize risky situations and make his own diagnosis. In this case, you can see directly with him. For the phyxme mobility this is important.

The term chiropractic comes from the Greek kheir meaning “hand” and praktos “who practices with”. If the Greeks already used vertebral manipulation to treat, we owe the discovery of chiropractic to Daniel David Palmer in the 19th century. This healer reportedly returned hearing to a deaf man after spinal manipulation. In 1895, he moved to Iowa in the United States and opened his chiropractic practice. In less than a century, chiropractic has been recognized as a regulated medical profession in some 40 countries.

Since these last two decrees, professionals have adopted the term chiropractic instead of chiropractic to designate their profession. Chiropractors, formerly known as chiropractors, are those who use chiropractic methods.

Principle of chiropractic

Chiropractic is based on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of alterations in the neuro-musculoskeletal system through manipulations performed on various parts of the body, including the spine and pelvis.

These often painful alterations are called subluxations. Due to the close relationship between the nervous system and the spine, these subluxations have repercussions on the functioning of our organism. To correct them, the transmission of nerve impulses must be improved by manually adjusting the joint in question.

Chiropractic is often confused with osteopathy while training and practices are different. Whatever the country, the diploma of chiropractor is obtained after six years of full-time studies. It is not possible to train in chiropractic through internships or seminars.

At the practical level, mechanically assisted manipulations and mobilizations as well as manipulations with force vectors are only reserved for chiropractors. When it comes to cervical manipulation, osteopaths must first obtain medical advice, which is not the case with chiropractors. Finally, only chiropractors are empowered to give advice for pain relief and to treat musculoskeletal system disorders and their consequences.

Why consult a chiropractor?

Chiropractic is particularly recommended for:

  • Treat acute or chronic low back pain or back pain and herniated discs
  • Relieve headaches mechanical headaches or tension headaches
  • Relieve neck pain and its consequences such as migraines, dizziness or cervicobrachial neuralgia relating to the neck and arm
  • Treat any joint or muscle damage to sports-related problems.
  • This manual therapy can be recommended at any age, especially in pregnant women and newborns.

How is chiropractic practiced?

Chiropractic involves the manipulation of the soft tissue and the spine. The practice includes adjustments and rehabilitation or re-education exercises, most of which are done manually. Unlike the osteopath, the chiropractor can sometimes use specialized tools:

Flexion-distraction table: specific to the Cox technique, it allows decompression of the sciatic nerve by local traction of the lumbar spine,

Thompson table: to manipulate the joints at the level of the spine and the peripheral joints,

Impulse instrument: to give a direct and controlled impulse to the joint.

The chiropractor also gives informed advice to patients in order to correct postures or habits harmful to their health. He can even establish a long-term postural or functional rehabilitation program. On the other hand, a chiropractor does not prescribe any medication and does not use surgery.
